A LARGE GEPIDIC SILVER BUCKLE
circa 6th century a.d.
The kidney shaped loop terminating in stylized animal heads with long ears, the eyes and opposite end of the loop with collar set cabochon glass, with scrolling along the length, the hooked tongue with a band of five columns of scrolling, both elements hinged to a triangular plate, a wide "hammer-head" opposite for attachment to the belt, with three cabochon glass gems set on each tapering side of the plate, five glass squares set in the center of the plate in a cruciform pattern and six set squares of glass at the tapered end in a T-shape, with scrolling in sectioned areas along the plate, an oval stylized human head on either side
