The Governor summons the renowned physician of Weymouth to serve on a committee for Boston College: "The inclos'd Vote will inform you of your Appointment upon a Committee to enquire into the State of the College, in consequence of which I am to request your Attendance on Tuesday next 10 oClock at the College." An important Massachusetts doctor, Tufts was president of the Massachusetts Medical Society and a charter member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He had represented Weymouth in meetings protesting the Stamp Act, and as a later delegate to the state ratification convention, chaired by Hancock, voted to ratify the new Constitution.
