MORRIS, Robert (1734-1806), Signer (Massachusetts), "Financier of the Revolution." Autograph letter signed ("Robt. Morris") to John Nicholson, n.p., 27 October 1798. 1 page, 4to, 228 x 187 mm., addressed by Morris, small hole from acidic ink in the large loop of the "R" in signature, otherwise fine. Morris, unable to read a letter in French which he has received, jokingly sends the letter on to his business partner, without formal salutation: "Entendez vous Francois Monsieur. If you do the enclosed letter sent me by Mr. Cazenove will give you an opportunity of exercising & displaying your knowledge. If you do not and wish for a translation I will get Robert my Son to do it, at any rate when you have done with it observe the Rule...I hope that...my old Wine will cure Mrs. Nicholson & make your Heart light. I expect to see you tomorrow & if you can dine with Mr. Banks & me so much the better."
