JOHNSON, Andrew (1808-1875). Partly printed check signed ("Andrew Johnson") as President, Washington, D.C., 24 April 1867.
80 x 205mm. (3 x 8 in.), clean, nearly invisible slit cancellation. An elaborately decorated check, printed in vivid green ink, with typographical borders and large vignette image of The First National Bank of Washington, with finely engraved wavy line pattern converging at bottom center ("Lith[ography] of Major & Knapp, 449 Broadway, N.Y."). Revenue stamp at top right. Accomplished in a secretary's hand. President Johnson directs payment to William Slade of $1290.87. Fine. A scarce Presidential check.
