With twist barrels, narrow rib, patent recessed breeches each with four platinum lines and platinum-lined touch-hole, engraved grooved tang, signed engraved flat bevelled locks each with stepped tail and inscribed respectively 'Patent 740' and 'Patent 741' to the rear of the swept rainproof pan, rollers, patent steels (one with old repair) inscribed respectively 'W. Smith Patent 740' and 'W. Smith Patent 741', figured walnut half-stock (bruised), chequered grip, engraved iron mounts, silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons (the latter each incomplete), and original iron-tipped ramrod (some wear, pitting, and surface rust), London proof marks
