A 25-Bore German Wheel-Lock Sporting Rifle

With swamped octagonal sighted barrel cut with seven grooves, the breech signed and stamped with maker's mark 'SS' above a lion rampant (Neue Stckel 1000), flat lock with internal wheel, the plate engraved with a sportsman shooting at a stag within a wooded landscape, sliding pan-cover with dome-headed release button, engraved flat cock, chiselled cock-spring with pierced and engraved bridle, figured full stock (minor repairs) inlaid with white staghorn scrolls, pellets, foliage, and flower-heads (some inlay replaced) enclosing panels pierced and engraved with scenes of the chase, patch-box cover faced with staghorn-inlaid rootwood and engraved staghorn, the front plaque engraved with a figure of Fortune, engraved staghorn fore-end cap, dark horn butt-plate with iron button, indented iron trigger-guard, set trigger, pierced and engraved horn ramrod-pipes, and horn-tipped ramrod, probably original, with iron powder-measure (some wear to iron parts)
