The first signed Hollis, Cheltenham, circa 1840, the second signed Manton, London, circa 1830
The first with rifled rebrowned octagonal sighted barrel inlaid with silver decoration and with two silver lines at the breech, signed scroll engraved white metal back-action lock, white metal half-stock en suite engraved with an American eagle on the left side, later scroll engraved iron spur trigger-guard, butt-trap in the pommel, and stirrup ramrod (trigger replaced), Birmingham proof marks; the second with rebrowned twist octagonal sighted barrel inscribed 'London' in gold, scroll engraved patent breech with gold line (gold perhaps later), signed scroll engraved back-action lock, walnut half-stock, chequered butt, scroll engraved iron trigger-guard, iron belt hook, white metal escutcheon, and stirrup ramrod, Birmingham proof marks
