A French mahogany and ormolu mounted display cabinet
by Sormani, of breakfront outline, the upper part with a spindle gallery and enclosed by a glazed panel door between glazed panels, the lower part containing a drawer applied with foliate ribband garland and two drawers to either side with pierced scroll ornament, enclosed by a cupboard below applied with similar ribbon-tied garlands of flowers and flanked by narrow panelled doors, on a plinth base with panelled sides, with similar decorated friezes, the inside lock engraved V.V.E. Literature
Paul Sormani (fl 1847 - 1934). In 1867 the firm moved to 10 rue Charlot. Sormani exhibited in 1849, 1855, 1862 and 1878. The quality of his work was exceptionally high.
