AN ETRUSCAN POTTERY DOUBLE HEAD VASE
circa 4th century b.c.
With two mold-made faces set back to back, one in the form of a satyr, the other a maenad, the satyr with pointed ears, lidded eyes beneath high arching brows, a snub nose, and a full beard of three rows of snail-shell curls, wearing a fillet of laurel, with a large berry in the center overlapped by his small horns, the fillet ties descending in front of his ears, the maenad with a spade-shaped forehead, slender nose, lidded eyes, and full lips, her wavy center-parted hair tied in bands, with rows of curls on either side, a thick band above adorned with rosettes, the upper portion of the vessel missing
