A ROMAN RED-WARE POTTERY CUP
circa 1st century a.d.
Molded in the form of New Comedy mask, perhaps of a slave, the wide, megaphone-like mouth forming the openning of the vessel, with a broad snub nose, convex almond-shaped eyes, exaggerated arching brows, creased forehead and bald pate, with ridged loop handles below the large, nearly horizontal ears, the underside of the round foot with concentric rings
