A GREEK TERRACOTTA FIGURE OF A WOMAN
circa late 5th century b.c.
Standing on a high pedestal base with her weight on her left leg, her right relaxed and bent at the knee, resting her left elbow on the top of a slender, fluted Ionic column, her right arm extending forward, wearing a himation over a chiton, her hair an enormous arrangement of plaits, bound in two vertical bands and a crossing beaded network, surmounted by a wide polos, with traces of polychrome preserved, including white throughout, black on the base, and red for the hair
