2o (322 x 204 mm). Title printed in red and black. 15 engraved plates, some folding (a few small repairs). (Short wormtrack affecting lower margin in a few quires, some browning and spotting to text, one plate with small hole in margin.) Contemporary panelled calf (rebacked, corners repaired).

Provenance: William Arderon (1703-1767), naturalist who wrote on natural history and microscopical science (signature on front free endpaper, and his? marginal notation on p. 462).

FIRST EDITION. Edited by Richard Waller, Hooke's Posthumous Works includes his major contribution to geology, entitled "Lectures and discourses on earthquakes."
