"We hope you got home all right in the dark. Here is the come-all-you about the turkey [the original manuscript of the above poem, which begins 'Come all you lairds and ladies and listen to my lay I'll tell of my adventures upon last Thanksgiving Day']. You may copy it if you wish but please return it as I have no other myself. I have just had tea with your aunt and we got on very well together, I think, as I tried my clearest tenor tones..." The nine quatrain humorous poem, written for a Thanksgiving Day party at the Eugene Jolases, was first printed in Pastimes of James Joyce, (New York, 1941), pp. 6-7. The letter is printed in Letters, ed. R. Ellmann, vol. 3, p. 415. (3)
