FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH of the second part of Paine's controversial Age of Reason, printed in Paris for American distribution. The pamphlet was written in response to criticisms of his 1794 work of the same title. These attacks all referred to the authority of the Bible, so Paine wrote this second pamphlet criticising the reliability of the Bible as a historical source. He had 15,000 copies of Part Two printed in Paris, in English, to be sent in September 1795 to Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia. Their arrival was delayed until April 1796, and copies had been printed in America from a London edition in the meantime.
