It appears that the foundation (warps and wefts) and most of the border elements of this carpet date to the late 17th or early 18th centuries. However, the entire field and parts of the border were entirely repiled in the late 19th century, using the coloration and design of a 17th century Polanaise carpet as inspiration. Despite the extensive restoration, this carpet still has enormous decorative appeal evoking the feeling of classical Persian carpets.
