A LARGE CARVED LONGQUAN CELADON CHARGER
14TH/15TH CENTURY

Heavily potted with shallow, rounded sides, the interior carved in the centre with trellis pattern within a triple line border, the well with scrolling lotus sprays, the exterior plain, all except an orange-oxidized firing ring on the base covered in a glaze of olive-green tone
19 1/8 in. (48.5 cm.) diam.

See, also, Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Topkapi Saray Museum, vol. I, p. 329 for a number of such chargers, the most similar being no. 356, in which the lotus scroll is carved in the same loose style.
