Previously sold in these Rooms, 28 April 1997, lot 528.

This luohan figure is originally believed to have come from the Sun Wu Tsu Temple, in Shanxi Province. Together with other luohan figures believed to have come from the same temple, the present lot was previously dated to the Song dynasty, but recent scholarship suggests a Ming dynasty date to be more appropriate.
