A rare mid 17th century Dutch (Friesland) silver gilt beaker
of tapering form, decorated around the foot with debased foliage and cording, engraved around the sides with three oval pendant cartouches with griffon adornment, each centred by a figure, emblematic of faith, hope and charity, below a strapwork frieze of birds and fruiting scrolls and above three various birds on foliate branches engraved underneath with a dual coat of arms, the initials 'S.H' and 'I.I' and date '1652' with a small later coat of arms engraved on one side, maker's mark HR conjoined, Workum 1651 - 11.5cm high, 4oz.
