Lot Essay

James Hicks & Sons advertised modestly as cabinet-makers and upholsters, collectors and restorers of Chippendale, Adam & Sheraton furniture from their premises at 5 and 6 Lower Pembroke Street Dublin. The furniture was of consistently high quality, of excellent design, with timber of well flared and grained wood and painstaking craftsmanship that reflected the firm's determination to produce work of as high a standard as possible and was a testimony to the exacting eye of Hicks, a great craftsman himself & a man approached his work with a spirit of reverence.
