A late 16th/17th-Century Dieppe ivory diptych dial,
signed on the calendar volvelle on the underside Fair & Inuee par Charles Bloud Dieppe , the cover with hour graduations 1-12 twice ( separated crack the length of the cover with small brass repair), the inner face with three brass volvelles, the outer with months, days and hours, the middle with days 1-30 and pointer, the inner dial with rose decoration at the centre, pointer and hole to show pale green lunar disc, the inner face of the lower leaf with scale of hours around compass bowl (glass and needle missing) with adjustable brass ellipse graduated VII-XII-V, the printed paper insert graduated round the edge in four quadrants 0-90 with coloured eight-pointed star and the latitudes of sixteen French towns, the underside with rotating volvelle with days and months around a perpetual calendar square, with two silver hooks and pins, hole in the side for pin gnomon (pin gnomon and retaining clip missing) -- 3.1/8in. (7.9cm.) wide
