An 18th-Century Culpeper-pattern compound monocular microscope,
unsigned, the eyepiece with dust slide, the lignum vitae field lens cover finely turned and mounted with lower support, with green vellum body-tube with gilded bands and positions for five objectives, the outer body-tube with lacquered-brass upper ring, lignum vitae lower support and covered in rayskin, united with the stage and lignum vitae base by lacquered-brass baluster-turned supports, with some accessories including three objectives, sprung slide holder, bull's-eye condenser, frog plate, two ivory sliders and other items contained in an accessory drawer, and contained in a pyramid-shaped oak case with engraved brass key escutcheon and loop carrying handle -- 18in.
