An unusual mid 19th-Century stationary steam set,
comprising a hot coal fired, soft soldered and stayed ferrous metal boiler with brass dome and cover and fittings including water gauge with shut-off cocks with wooden handles, pressure gauge, drain tap, filler plug, main stop valve and steam line and weight and lever safety valve (mounting broken, valve missing), finished in brown and polished brightwork and mounted on four turned columns above a metal base -- drum dimensions: 10 x 7in. (25.5 x 17.8cm.); engine details include twin brass cylinders 1in. bores x 1in. stroke with inward facing valve chests, pedestal mounted double slide crosshead guides, lever operated Stephenson's link reverse, barrelled connecting rods, disc cranks, pedestal mounted main bearings and central spoked flywheel with column mounted brass disc engraved D. Beattie and finished in green, black and red with 'gold' lining and polished brightwork and mounted on a painted metal bed with brass handrailings on four bun feet -- 11 x 21in. (29.2 x 53.3cm.)
