MAKER'S MARK OF JOHN LE SAGE, CIRCA 1730, BEARING TRANSPOSED LONDON HALLMARKS OF AN EARLIER DATE, A "DUTY DODGER"

Tapering cylindrical, on molded base with facetted spout and wood scroll handle, the stepped domed hinged cover with baluster finial with mid-band, engraved with a coat-of-arms and helm within a foliate scroll and fishscale cartouche, marked under base with leopard's head and lion passant of circa 1680 and maker's mark struck twice, once overstriking the date letter--9 1/4in. (23.5cm.) high
