Globular, with fluted spout, the cover with globular finial, the overhead raffia covered swing handle with scroll joins, the lampstand with three scroll legs and lamp with mid-band and molded rim, the side, cover and lamp engraved with a lozenge of arms within a foliate scroll and rusticated cartouche, marked under base, on cover, handle, stand, lamp and lamp cover--9 1/4in. (23.5cm.) high

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Meade impaling those of Butler, as borne by Elizabeth, widow of Sir John Meade, 1st bt., whom she married as his third wife in 1688. He was Attorney General and subsequently Judge of the Palatinate of Tipperary and M.P. for Dublin University in 1689 and for co. Tipperary from 1692 until his death in 1707. Lady Meade, who was the daughter of Pierce, 2nd Viscount Ikerrin, died in Dublin in December, 1757 aged 88.
