Based on the original by Daniel Lang of circa 1630, on oval pedestal chased with a band of shells with leaves applied at intervals, with swags and mid-rib above, the figure in armour holding a baton astride a horse, with removable head, marked on base, figure and head--15 5/8in. (39.2cm.) high

Lot Essay

This is a copy of the well-known figure of King Gustavus Adophus of Sweden by the Augsburg silversmith Daniel Lang, in the Museum Für Kunsthandwerk, Frankfurt am Main. It is one of a series of figures of the Swedish king done by Augsburg silversmiths, all based on a design by Hans Friederich Schorer in the Nationalemuseum Stockholm. A version is in the collection of the Duke of Bedford, at Woburn Abbey.
