A BELLE EPOQUE OPAL, DIAMOND AND DEMANTOID GARNET BROOCH

The finely pierced panel set with a large opal bordered by diamond and opal collets with entwined small demantoid garnet and diamond lines between, suspending three oval opal and diamond drops, mounted in gold and platinum, circa 1895, 4¼in. overall height

This interesting jewel, in a subtle version of the 'garland style',
combines many elements fashionable in jewellery design at the end of the 19th Century. These include the striking colour combination of opals and demantoid garnets and the use of platinum for the 'knife-edge' and 'milled' settings
