The exterior finely enamelled with four large 'European style' flower bouquets and divided by scattered sprigs, a similar large floral spray at the centre and smaller compositions around the foot, the rim interior with an iron-red and gilt ornamental band on a diaper-pattern ground, rim chip

Lot Essay

Compare the almost identical bowl from the Helena Woolworth McCann Collection in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, illustrated by J.G. Phillips, op.cit., 1960, pl.77, and p.166, where the author suggests that the interior border on this bowl is probably based on the types found on Meissen wares of the second quarter of the 18th Century.
