Momoyama Period (Late 16th Century)
Decorated in gold lacquer on a black lacquer ground and inlaid in mother of pearl, the hinged front revealing eight drawers, the front, top and sides, with panels of camellia, plum and ho-o birds, within geometric designs, the central drawer of architectural form, the back and the interior of the drop front with a design of scrolling vine, engraved copper fittings, some old damage and later repairs
