A white-metal spoon, stamped 830S, commemorating Amundsen's discovery of the South Pole, 14-17 December 1911, the wide bowl incised with the southern hemisphere, the South Pole at the centre, the handle lettered 'Sydpolens-Opdager, 14-17 Dcmr 1991', ending in a portrait bust of the explorer and his ship, the Fram. Modern box.
Amundsen and his team became the first men to reach the South Pole on 15 December 1911, five weeks ahead of Scott. They spent 3 days encamped there, taking measurements before returning to their base at Framheim. The dates of 14-17 December refer to Amundsen's cable announcing his feat to Leon, which read 'Pole attained fourteenth-seventeenth December 1911'; having crossed the international date line, Amundsen actually arrived at the Pole on 15th December.
