Vinho do Porto (Colheita)--Vintage 1893 These bottles were part of a number found half buried in the Palace of Val-Flor when it was "occupied" by the state after the revolution of 25th April 1975. Tall flute shaped bottles. Believed bottled in 1946 after long ageing in large oak. Decanted off sediment, re-corked and re-waxed in 1979. Very bin-soiled labels marked with the initials (V.F.) of the Marquis of Val-Flor an aristocratic wine connoisseur for whom the port was bottled. Excellent levels Tasting note: Palish amber with apple green rim. Sweet, raisiny, slightly madeira-like bouquet; still sweet on the palate despite its age and a good flavour. (M.B. 8/1/1997)
