An alternative attribution to Johann Christian Klengel (1751-1824) has been suggested based on a comparison with drawings of similar subject in the Städelsches Kunstinstitut, Frankfurt, E. Schilling, K. Schwarzweller, Katalog der deutschen Zeichnungen, Alte Meister, Munich, 1973, nos. 1203-4, illustrated.
