The label is that of Louis-Stanislas Lenoir-Ravrio (1783-1846), partner and reputedly the illegitimate son of Andr-Antoine Ravrio
(1759-1814), a celebrated bronzier who supplied large quantities of bronzes d'ameublement to the Imperial Garde Meuble. Lenoir-Ravrio inherited the business following Andr-Antoine's death in 1814 and took part in the Muse Industriel exhibition of 1819, where he was commended for 'manufacture... d'un excellent got'.
Inspired by Roman candelabra, the bronze candlesticks' fluted columnar shafts are wrapped by palms and acanthus, while their tripod altar plinths incorporate arabesque griffins, sacred to the sun deity Apollo. Their antique form relates to candelabra patterns issued in Jacob Petit's Recueil de dcorations intrieures, Paris, late 1820s.
