From a family of clock-makers and mostly known for producing clock cases, Jrme Jollain was established in clotre Saint-Jean-de-Latran. A longcase rgulateur by Jollain is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Franais du XVIIIe. Sicle, Paris, 1989, p. 445. A cartel clock by Jollain with related ormolu mounts was sold from the Collection of Frederick P. Victoria and Son, Christie's New York, 27 May 1999, lot 65. A very similar rgulateur of the same shape and with the same mounts but with simpler, floral marquetry instead of pictorial marquetry was sold at Drouot Montaigne, tude Kohn, Paris, 23 March 1998, lot 34.
