Lot Essay

Jean Chrysostome Stumpff, matre in 1766.
Martin Ohneberg, matre in 1773.

A Louis XV commode stamped by Ohneberg with closely related marquetry was sold anonymously Sotheby's New York, 22 May 1997, lot 229. It is conceivable that Stumpff supplied the carcase of the commode offered here, while Ohneberg provided the marquetry.
