The first time that a 'face hugger' appears in the Aliens Trilogy is in the memorable scene with John Hurt [Kane], when Brett and Lambert bring him back to the Infirmary with a face hugger clamped to his face, the tail wrapped round his neck, apparently giving him oxygen to breathe. According to Stan Winston, Assistant Director for the second film, ...a multitude of face huggers was required to make the sequence come alive, to make it appear that this particular creature was attacking, leaping, jumping, scurrying, running across the floor.... H.R. Giger said: ...The Alien is the star of the movie.... According to Paul Scanlon and Michael Gross, ...The original design called for a much bigger Hugger, which used a large, muscular tail to spring out of the egg like a jack-in-the-box, but [Ridley] Scott wanted something smaller, more face-sized...
