A late Victorian ebonised and gilt-brass mounted striking mantel clock, late 19th century
The arched case with turned ball finials and mask and foliate mounts to the lunette, silk backed sound frets to the sides and mirror-backed balustraded gallery to the front, on stepped and moulded plinth, the 6in. (15cm.) square one piece silvered dial with engraved foliate spandrels, conforming centre also with stellar design, slow/fast above XII, the twin chain fusee movement with hour strike on gongs and ting-tang quarter chimes on two gongs, pendulum holdfast to the backplate (securing bracket lacking), signed on the shaped backplate JOHN MOORE & SONS CLERKENWELL LONDON 15780, section of moulding detached to one side -- 16in. (41cm.) high
