The shouldered tapering jar on folded ring foot, the short neck with inward-folded rim, mottled green patina, the panel of cuneiform inscription consisting of 17 lines of text concerning Utuhegal himself, who is described as "The powerful male, King of Uruk, King of the four quarters of the world" and continues with a powerful curse formula designed to protect the original inscription
5.7/8 in. (15 cm.) high; 6.1/8 in. (15.5 cm.) diam. max.; 3¾ in. (9.5 cm.) rim diam.

King Utuhegal of Uruk is of importance in Mesopotamian history for having led his army against and having subsequently driven out the Guti, invaders who had ruled in Mesopotamia for some one hundred years.
Royal inscriptions on vessels of this date are extremely rare; there are no duplicates of this inscription.
