Lot Essay

The fluted frame and trailing husk surround of these mirrors relates to a series of designs by John Linnell from the 1770's (see H. Hayward and P. Kirkham, William and John Linnell, 1980, vol.II, pls.194, 197, 198). A similar pair of mirros is illustrated in C. Claxton-Stevens and S. Whittington, Eighteenth Century English Furniture, The Norman Adams Collection, 1983, p.435.
