Provenance
JOSEPH SMITH's copy, with his armorial bookplate engraved by Antonio Visentini. Joseph Smith (1682-1770), British consul at Venice, and renowned collector of books, manuscripts, pictures, coins and gems. He also edited an edition of Boccaccio's Decameron. In 1756 George III began to form his library by purchasing Smith's collection of books en bloc for 10,000l.
