Provenance: George Noble, inscription on title; Bibliotheca Lamonia, label. An early edition of Porta's first work, essentially a continuation of the medieval book of secrets and experiments. Philip, engraved device on title, 2 folding engraved plates and 9 full-page illustrations in the first work, engraved device on title, 4 engraved plates (one folding) and 6 illustrations in the second work (lower margin of first few leaves stained), 18th-century panelled calf gilt. Provenance: From the library of William Luxdorf (1716-1788) with his blindstamped elephant's head on the front cover, the trunk holding a crown and 3 arrows. Second edition of both works.
