A 19th. Century silver-gilt and malachite "Kilmainham" brooch,
the design based upon a dark ages penannular brooch in the collection of the Royal Irish Academy.
A range of Irish shawl pins including examples of similar design were exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851 by George and Samuel Waterhouse of Dublin. Refer Jewellery 1789-1910 by Shirley Bury, Vol II pages 537-547 for further details.
