STEPHENS, JAMES. Autograph manuscript of the short story "Etched in Moonlight". N.p., n.d. 63 pages, 8vo, in a notebook, and 9 pages, 4to, all in ink on lined paper, a working draft with very extensive revisions by Stephens (13 of the 63 octavo pages are on versos and contain insertions ranging from a sentence to a full page), several other versos contain passages in French and in shorthand in pencil (apparently not Stephens' hand), the 9 quarto pages continue the story from the notebook, the plain brown wrappers of the notebook have separated, the octavo leaves a trifled browned (but in good condition), blue morocco pull-off case (slightly scuffed); signed by Stephens on front wrapper, titled and signed by him at top of first page, and at the end of the last quarto leaf. This supernatural love story was collected in Stephens' book of tales Etched in Moonlight (London and New York editions, 1928).
