KUNISADA: oban tate-e and oban yoko-e (36.3 x 24 cm. ea. approx.); a group of sumo wrestler prints, comprising: a beauty holding a sumo wrestler puppet from the series Sumo ningyo hana no torikumi "Wrestling match between sumo dolls and flowers", signed Oju (by order) Kunisada aratame nidai Toyokuni ga (Kunisada changing to the second Toyokuni) and published by Wakasaya Jingoro; a portrait of the wrestler Ikezuki Geitazaemon juxtaposed with a 'life-sized' hand print taken in his eighteenth year and inscribed on the right that he comes from Hirado and is nearly 7 feet tall, yellow ground, signed Kunisada aratame nidai Toyokuni ga, published by Kogaya Katsugoro; a triptych depicting a match between Shiranui, on the left, and Kimenzan, on the right, with Kimura Shonosuke the referee, in the left panel, and the toshiyori (judge) Isenoumi, in the right panel, signed Toyokuni ga and published by Daikokuya Heikichi; and two sheets from a triptych depicting a match between Koyanagi Tsunekichi and Shiranui Dakuemon, signed Kochoro Kunisada ga and published by Yamaguchiya Tobei--generally good impressions, slightly faded, some surface creases and light soil or small stains (7)
