Anastasio III was Pope from 911 to 913. Marozia was the daughter of Theodora, the latter a wealthy Roman who seized the reins of government of Italy, revived the ancient spirit of paganism, and drew all in her licentious train. Marozia surpassed her mother in lewdness. Her son Octavian became Pope.
