FOUR NETSUKE
(19TH CENTURY)

A group of four netsuke comprising a wood model of a Mandarin orange with nubby skin and small leaves and partially pealed on one side revealing the smooth sections of the fruit, below a drop of juice, composed of amber, inscribed on a rectangular inlaid ivory reserve Mitsuhiro; a wood and ivory netsuke miniature group of a sage, modelled in ivory, meditating in a cave beneath tall and large pine trees, the cave, adjacent rocks and pines carved of wood, several of the tops of the pines carved of ivory, the entire group placed on a footed, rectangular plinth like those supporting arrangements of bonsai, signed on the underside of plinth Rangyoku and with kakihan, small chip at edge of plinth; an ivory group of blind men fighting, unsigned; and a wood carving of a norse, neck down, and wearing a saddle, signed on the underside of an oval plinth, Gen-----1 1/2 in.
