EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY), SIGNED KOMA YASUTADA SAKU
Of oval section lacquered in gold and silver takamaki-e on a roiro-nuri ground embellished with nashiji with a quail nesting in arching willow branches laden with snow on one side and with two silver cranes wading in a stream, rendered in gold and silver togidashi on the other, the edges lacquered with foliate scroll and the interior cases nashiji; fitted with a gilt metal ojime cast in the form of a seated cat and with a wood netsuke carved in the form of two biting rats, signed Tomotada, small chip on underside- 3 in. (7.7cm.) high
