EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY), SIGNED JOKASAI AND WITH KAKIHAN

Fashioned in the form of a large and smaller hina doll resembling those for the Girl's Festival, rendered in gold, red and silver takamaki-e on a red and gold ground, details in nashiji and black and the paulownia sprays on the costumes of the dolls inlaid in mother of pearl, interior cases red lacquer embelled in gold hiramaki-e with foliate scroll; fitted with a wood netsuke carved in the form of a toad on an overturned sandal, signed Masanao and a bead form coral ojime--4 1/8 in. (10.5 cm.) high
