EIGHT SHAKUDO, SHIBUICHI AND COPPER TSUBA
18TH/19TH CENTURY
Probably Shonai, oval copper with an o-ishime surface, engraved with antlers and applied with shakudo hira-zogan antlers (one wanting); nadekaku shakudo, engraved katakiribori with Daikoku and Ebisu beneath a pine viewing a scroll; nadekaku copper carved and molded with a seaside landscape with an applied shakudo cottage, inscribed Yasuchika; mokko shibuichi delicately engraved in fine katakiribori with a man handling kagami mochi (rice cakes), inscribed Haruaki Hogen saku and dated Kokka ni-nen [1845]; oval shibuichi with ko-ishime ji, light;ly carved with a shoreline and applied with three shakudo and gold crabs, signed Tankasai Motoaki; oval copper with shakudo fukurin and with shakudo hon-zogan arrowroots; shiiremono mokko shakudo nanako; oval shakudo with a figure of a woman carved in sunken relief reaching for an inkstone and brushg, possibly an allusion to Ono no Komachi, signed Fukukei and kao; heights 7.5, 6.8, 8.8, 6.7, 6.8, 6.3, 6.4, 6.8 cm.
