A SHAKUDO HAMANO STYLE TSUBA
FIRST HALF 19TH CENTURY
Oval, the guard depicts a scene of Minamoto no Yorimasa (1106-1180) killing the nue outside of the Shishinden inside the Imperial Palace in Kyoto; the figures of Yorimasa, his attendant and the nue are applied anmd executed in shakudo, shibuichi, silver, gold and copper whoile the storm winds raging about them are deeply carved; the ura is carved with winds by the stairs of a palace building, signed Ryuhoken Ryonobu and Kao, height 7.1 cm
