The drum-shaped case loosely engraved with designs emblematic of the continents, supported on the heads of puffing cherubs, on demi-lune pedestal with three zodiacal symbol mounts and base entwined with a serpent, resting on a rectangular base, flanked to one side by a figure of Aurora holding a flaming torch, lifting her star-studded cape from the clock, with a ray of sunlight emerging behind, flanked to the other side by a cockerel on a pedestal, on rectangular base cast in relief to the front with scene of Aurora in a chariot processing through clouds, on milled and rosette cast bun feet, the white enamel Roman dial signed Gentilhomme Palais Royal à Paris, steel moon hands (minute lacking), the twin barrel movement with silk suspension and countwheel strike on bell; with pendulum
